Meet the Vicar

First, Brian has a confession to make — he hails from the South Coast — so, not only is he a Southerner but a real Southerner. Brian was brought up on Hayling Island in Hampshire before moving on to Reading to attend university; here he completed his studies in Cybernetics & Control Engineering and is very much a scientist at heart.

After working as a Research Assistant at the university, Brian along with two colleagues formed a company working in the field of software development. In 2002, Brian began to explore a call to ministry in the Church of England, eventually attending Ridley Hall in Cambridge to study theology in 2005. Subsequently, Brian was ordained as a curate in the parish of Windermere and Troutbeck in 2008. After finishing his curacy, Brian then became a Parish Missioner in Troutbeck before being appointed as priest-in-charge in Colton, Lowick and Egton cum Newland in 2015 and additionally priest-in-charge of Coniston & Torver in 2018. In 2019, Brian became vicar of the Benefice of Coniston and the Crake Valley combining the parishes into one grouping.

In 2015, Brian married Anne as they both set out on ministering to the local parishes. Sadly, Anne passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly in June 2021 after two years of illness. However,  the impact of Anne's presence and love is still very much felt in the parishes and of course, by Brian!

Brian is very grateful for his ministry and feels truly privileged to be living in the Benefice of Coniston and the Crake Valley, serving the wonderful people of Cumbria and being able to enjoy such breath-taking landscape.
