St Luke's, Lowick

The parish of St. Luke's, Lowick now includes the former parish of St. John the Baptist, Blawith and for that reason is often referred to as Lowick with Blawith. The parish church building can be found on a lane that runs from the Lowick Bridge crossroads, passing the Red Lion public house on the right to the hamlet of Woodgate that lies between Lowick Green and Gawthwaite — St. Luke's is six hundred yards from the Red Lion on the right-hand side.

St. Luke's is surrounded by an extensive churchyard that is still open for burials, and the church building is in an ideal spot to take in the Old Man of Coniston and the beauty of the rolling fells that border the Crake Valley. The church interior is one of the most attractive and well-maintained in the area, and combines both a simplicity and sense of grandeur.

The parish area is extensive taking in the number of scatter villages and mainly hamlets, including Gawthwaite, Woodgate, Lowick Green, Lowick Bridge, Blawith and Water Yeat, and a very small section of the village of Spark Bridge.
