St Luke's, Torver
St. Luke's church in Torver is located on the A593 running from Coniston to Broughton-in-Furness, just north of the Torver Junction where the A593 meets the A5084 which runs down the Crake Valley to Greenodd. The church building is situated at the centre of the Torver parish and at its largest population centre, as most of Torver community is spread out down the valley and across farmland.
The church is surrounded by the older closed churchyard and the new churchyard, which is still open for burials, lies across the road on the opposite side. Just north of the church building lies the former church school that closed in the 1950s and is now affectionately known as the schoolroom in the Torver community. The schoolroom has now been renovated and is available to book for events and meetings.

St. Luke's offers a variety of regular worship from the Service of Holy Communion to the very contemporary, and informal Torver Junction fresh expression held in the schoolroom. Finally, during the Winter months a Winter Breakfast is held in the schoolroom but from April to October the exciting, fresh expression, Bikers' Breakfast is held once a month. This can see up to 150+ bikers descend on the schoolroom for worship, food, and camaraderie — and motorbikes, lots of them.
In March 2019, a group of Christians from the benefice and some of the bikers from the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) climbed one of the lower fells behind St. Luke's and the schoolroom to the site of the Torver Cross. They were joined by church leaders to bless the Torver Cross, and to bless the surrounding area and valley. It is hoped that the Torver Cross can be raised at important points in the Christian calendar, such as Eater and Christmas, to offer a symbol of hope and a reminder of God's blessing to Torver and the valley. Electoral Roll
The Electoral Roll is the means of establishing Church Representation for the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM). The APCM is an annual meeting where the churchwardens, Parochial Church Council (PCC) members and deanery synod representatives are elected. If someone has their name enrolled on the electoral roll then they are able cast a vote in any of the election for posts that are part of the APCM.
In addition, if you are a member on the electoral roll you are also entitled to certain rights as if you were a resident of the parish, i.e. to be married in the parish church.

Who's Who
Brian has been the incumbent of St. Mary’s, Egton-cum-Newland, St. Luke’s, Lowick and Holy Trinity, Colton since February 2015. While, more recently, he also took on the incumbency for St. Andrew’s, Coniston & St. Luke’s, Torver in January 2018 forming the Coniston & Crake Valley Benefice.
Brian’s roots are in the evangelical and charismatic wing of the Church, and he is also the Regional Consultant for the North of England for Filling Station, a network of meetings focussed on renewal and evangelism.
